Import data — switching from another tool

What this screen is for. Bring your book of business over from HomeGauge, Spectora, or ISN — your clients, agents, comment library, inspection templates, and branding — the "switch in a weekend" tool. (Past reports don't import; your records do.) How to get there. Sidebar → Settings → Import data (owner only). The import links on the Templates and Comments pages land here with the right choices already made. What every button does Coming from — Spectora · HomeGauge · ISN. What to bring over — Clients & agents · Comment library · Templates · Branding (and for contacts, Import as Clients or Agents). How to export from {source} — numbered steps that change with your source and what you're bringing, ending with the honest fallback: "Stuck? Any spreadsheet with a name column works — or email support and we will do it for you." Paste CSV or upload a file — paste straight in, Upload .csv, or Load sample to see the exact shape that vendor exports (importing the sample is a real end-to-end test). The Preview — counts "N ready · M skipped" and lists what will land: names with contact lines, comments with their bodies, templates with their sections, branding as color swatches. Import N clients (or agents, comments, templates, branding settings) — the button names exactly what it will do. Success reads "Imported 214 clients. 3 duplicates skipped." A bad row never sinks the ship: "5 rows didn't import — everything else was saved. Fix the CSV and re-import just those rows," with the rows and reasons named. Import history — every run: when, source, type, how many, status. Common questions "How do I bring my clients over from HomeGauge?" Coming from → HomeGauge → Clients & agents → follow the export steps → paste or upload → Import. They appear on your Clients list immediately. "My comment library is my life's work — will it survive?" Yes — export it per the steps and import as Comment library; every comment lands in Comments, yours to organize. "Do my old reports come over?" No — your records do (people, comments, templates, branding). Delivered reports belong to the tool that made them. "I imported the same file twice and got doubles." Re-importing a file creates duplicates by design (the dedupe is within one file) — import each export once, and clean strays from the Clients or Agents list. "Some rows failed — is everything else gone?" No — everything else was saved, and the alert names exactly which rows to fix and re-import. Good to know The Comments page has this same importer built in, pre-set to comments — no detour needed when that's all you're moving. Finishing a contacts import ticks the setup guide's "Add your clients & agents" step.
