The capture screen — walking the house

What this screen is for. This is where you inspect: walk the house, talk, snap photos, and HomeRecon writes it up. Everything on this screen is built to be used one-handed, in bad light, with no signal. How to get there. Sidebar → Inspections → open a job → Continue (or Open). Starting a new inspection lands you here after the cover-photo step. What every button does Across the top: The back arrow returns to the job's own page. The Findings chip (the cloud) — your connection and your safety net in one. Green cloud: online — captures upload as you go. Red cloud: no signal — captures are saved on this device and process automatically when you're back online, with a count of what's waiting. Tap it any time to see your findings, newest first — it answers "where did my finding go?". While uploads drain it reads Syncing, and if one fails it becomes Retry — one tap tries again. Photos — the album: Photos, Videos, and 360° tabs, every shot labeled by section, plus an Unfiled group. Add photos batch-uploads; Save all hands your phone the share sheet or downloads a zip on a computer. You can drag a photo from the album onto a finding, the capture bar, an Important tile, or the cover slot. Preview — opens the real client report as it stands, in its own tab, any time. It never finishes anything; it's for checking your work mid-walk. The green Back to the inspection bar at the top brings you straight back — in the phone app it closes the report sheet and lands you on the walk where you left it. Checklist — the whole-inspection list: every section and the required lines still to capture, with a badge counting them. Tap a row to jump there. When you're done it celebrates: "Nothing missing — you're all caught up!" Finish — the green button that ends the walk and moves to review (covered in the inspection page doc). If it briefly reads "Saving…", it's protecting a capture that hasn't finished uploading — it proceeds by itself the moment everything is safe. Guide — replays the 60-second walkthrough of this screen whenever you want it. It also opens once on its own the first time you ever capture. The progress strip: the sections-complete meter and count, the Filter chip (narrow the findings to one rating — a banner shows "N shown" with Clear, and your numbering never changes), and the inspection clock — it counts time actually spent, pausing when you leave the app. The section rail (the left column): Introduction and Important pinned at the top, then your report sections — each with a colored dot (red = nothing yet, yellow = a few findings, green = well covered), a finding count, and N/A if skipped — then Add section, Limitations, and Glossary / Terms pinned at the bottom. Tap a section to work in it. Reorder rearranges your walk; the chevron hides the labels down to a slim icon strip when you want the room. Each pane has its own doc — see Related. On a phone, a two-button switch above the section chooses your view: Findings (the captured tiles) or Subsections (the line-by-line checklist). Your choice sticks, even across a reload. On a computer you see both at once. The capture bar along the bottom — TALK, Photo, Video, and everything that adds a finding — is its own doc: The capture dock. Common questions "What does the green or red cloud mean?" Green: online, captures upload as you go. Red: no signal — everything is saved on this device and files itself when you're back in coverage. The number is how many are waiting. "Where did my finding go?" Tap the Findings chip. The list is newest first; the AI files each finding in the section it belongs to, which may not be the one you were standing in. "What happens in a crawlspace with no signal?" Nothing is lost — ever. Each capture (your words and its photos) is saved on the phone and uploads by itself when signal returns. Keep working; the chip keeps count. Speech-to-text can need a connection, and if it — or the AI — can't reach out down there, your notes are saved and you can type instead; the draft still finishes once you're back in coverage. If you reload the page with no signal, it tells you you're offline (never a red error), and it loads your data on its own the moment you're back in coverage — you don't have to reload again. "How do I make sure I didn't miss anything?" Tap Checklist — it lists every section's outstanding lines and jumps you straight to them. "Can I see the report before I finish?" Yes — Preview, any time. It's the real client report so far, in its own tab. "Why is my findings list suddenly short?" A rating Filter is on. Tap Clear on the filter banner. "I reloaded the page mid-capture — did I lose my note?" No. A capture that didn't finish comes back in a banner with your exact words — Put it back in the note box or Copy — and captures that were mid-upload finish on their own. Good to know Captures file in the exact order you tapped them, one at a time — you'll see "Filing:" on the current one and "Queued:" on the rest. A failed one never holds up the line. Your layout choices stick — the rail collapsed or open, the capture bar tucked or out, the Findings/Subsections view — all remembered for the whole walk. Once a report is delivered, this screen locks: the capture bar is gone and a note explains why. Unlocking to edit is done from the inspection page. The first-ever visit opens the Guide once, on its own. It never nags again — the Guide button is there when you want it.
