Ask the report — the Genie on your emailed link
What this screen is for. On the report link your inspector emailed, you can ask the report itself a question in plain English — "How bad is the roof, really?" — and get an answer built from the report's own contents, with a note on where it came from. It's a reading aid at 11 pm, and it hands the questions that matter to a real person. How to get there. On the emailed report, tap the sparkles Ask HomeRecon Genie button floating at the lower right, or scroll to the Ask this report card at the bottom. Same chat either way. What every button does The composer — type anything, or tap a starter question: "What are the safety issues?" · "What should I fix first?" · "Are there any expensive repairs?" · "What did the inspector say about the roof?" An answer — the reply, then a line saying how it was found: "Read from your report by AI," or — when the AI isn't reading at that moment — a plain note that your words were matched to the closest part of the report instead. Under that, "From your report" chips jump you to the exact section the answer came from. Ask your inspector — the real-person path, right below: your name, your question, Send to your inspector. It lands with the inspection firm and they follow up with you directly. The sheet closes with the ✕, Escape, or a swipe down on a phone. Above every conversation, the standing notice: the answer is generated the moment you ask, from the report's own contents — your inspector has not seen it and has not approved it. Treat it as a reading aid, not as their advice; if the answer matters to a decision, send the question to your inspector and get it from them. Common questions "Are these answers my inspector's answers?" No. They're written when you ask, after your inspector signed the report, and nobody has reviewed them. Your inspector's own words are the report itself — and the "Ask your inspector" button reaches the person. "Will it tell me what a repair costs?" No. It won't invent a dollar figure — repair budgets live on the findings themselves. An answer that tries is replaced whole with an invitation to ask your inspector. "Why did it just repeat a chunk of the report?" The AI wasn't reading at that moment, so it matched your words to the closest passage and said so under the answer. If that missed your question, ask your inspector. "I'm signed in to the portal — where's the Genie?" The signed-in report replaces it with something better: a message thread with your actual inspector. The Genie lives on the emailed public link. "Where did that answer come from?" Tap a "From your report" chip — it jumps to the section it drew on. "It stopped answering me." Each report has a polite daily limit on Genie questions. "Ask your inspector" always works. Good to know Every answer says how it was found — read the line under it before leaning on the phrasing. The Genie never rules on whether something meets code and never advises buying or walking away — those calls belong to people. It's built to hold that line, not just asked nicely to. The little greeting bubble ("Questions about your report?") shows once per report and dismisses itself.
